The Sanctuary of the South (SOS) is a workers collaborative with a mission of justice and liberation through communal love and support. We are a network serving the South, providing legal services, growing community sanctuary spaces, and supporting  grassroots projects with the goal of forever breaking the systems of oppression that have kept us separated from our collective joy and power. 

We explicitly reject the nonprofit industrial complex and all federal, state and large foundation funding. We are not beholden to a board of directors or funders. We are beholden only to the communities we belong to and serve, collapsing the separation between social justice labor and the people.

SOS is a refuge - for social justice workers and those we serve. We provide sliding scale legal services, with a special focus on keeping immigrant communities safe from the violence and preventing family separation caused by ICE enforcement, detention, and deportation. We provide sanctuary spaces throughout the South to foster community, healing, and spiritual connection as resistance. We also grow seed funding for community-based projects throughout the South that share these values-anchored goals. But most importantly, we provide a different model of building power to dismantle the systems of oppression that have kept us from our ancestral power and collective joy.
